Go Forth!

I told myself Turkey would be different. I’ve been to Canada, but that’s not much different from America. Turkey’s a different people, language, culture…virtually everything’s different. Yet I can’t help but be amazed by how different Turkey really is. It goes beyond my wildest dreams. Everything from near misses by cars to the fantastic Turkish hospitality; it’s all so surreal. Today we had an assignment: to go forth and study people and find questions about the different actions people take in Turkey. As Americans we often take for granted the actions of others around us due to us “being” in the context of the situation. In Turkey people do things differently and we want to know why. Some people went up above Yusufpasa to people study while I and others went do the local bazaar behind famous and exotic Spice Bazaar. We asked questions such as why advertisers seem to favor American models rather than Turkish or why people recycle bottle caps but not bottles. We can’t have all the exact answers but it does offer an in-depth view of another life. After that we went to dinner at Dub, a local Indian restaurant with absolutely fantastic Indian food. Topping that off with Vespers and cookies and you have the makings of a first class day. With only more to still come.
